I tune by ear and by computer. I learned to tune piano by ear and continue to do so. I also use a computer to tune as well. By combining aural and machine tuning, a very good sounding and stable tuning can be achieved.

Get to Know Us
My name is David Smith. I grew up in a musical family, graduated from Brainerd High School and Central Lakes Community College, and have been tuning and repairing pianos in the Brainerd area since 2003. I received my training by apprenticing with two Piano Technician Guild members, Dennis Benson, Willmar, Minnesota and Ken Hannah, Stillwater, Minnesota.

Pianos are a wooden instrument and are affected by humidity changes. When it is humid, the wood swells and when it is dry the wood shrinks. This process leads to pianos becoming out of tune.
